Godly Sorrow and Joy over Their Repentance

2 Corinthians 7:2-16

7
Chapter 7
2 Make room for us. We wronged no one, we corrupted no one, we took advantage of no one. 3 I do not say this by way of condemnation, for I have said before that in our hearts you are for dying together and living together. 4 I have great openness toward you; I have great boasting over you. I am filled with consolation; I superabound with joy in every tribulation of ours. 5 For even when we came into Macedonia, our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side—fights outside, fears inside— 6 But the one who encourages the humble encouraged us—God—in the arrival of Titus. 7 not only by his presence but also by the encouragement with which he was encouraged by you, as he reported to us your longing, your lamentation, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more. 8 That even if I grieved you by the letter, I do not regret it; but even if I did regret it, 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were grieved, but that you were grieved into repentance. For you were grieved according to God, so that you might in no way be wronged by us. 10 For the sorrow according to God produces repentance unto salvation, unregrettable; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 See, for this very thing—the grief according to God—what earnestness it worked in you: defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, vindication. In everything you commended yourselves to be pure in the matter. 12 So even if I wrote to you, not on account of the one who did wrong or on account of the one who was wronged, but on account of your zeal for us before God. 13 For this reason we have been comforted. But over our comfort, we rejoiced all the more greatly over the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you. 14 because if I have boasted to him about you in anything, I was not put to shame. Just as we spoke all things to you in truth, so also our boasting about Titus became truth. 15 And his inner affections are more abundantly toward you, remembering the obedience of all of you, how with fear and trembling you received him. 16 I rejoice that I am confident in you in everything.
